This year, an interesting story unfolds around the Nobel Prize for Literature. I only have time right now to post some links, bookmarks if you will.
1) Mini-scandal regarding Permanent Secretary's thoughts on US literature.
2) The winner is Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio.
3) Turns out, Le Clezio is a little bit American, among other things--go Albuquerque!.
4) It's not at all strange that New Mexico is part-time home to Le Clezio.
Now I'm retuning to my cave of exam studying.

While I don't think U.S. literature needs defending, and I wish that someone had taken this opportunity to investigate corporate publishing and bookselling (just to pass the blame along) the Guardian has an article on several examples that contradict Mr. Engdahl: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/booksblog/2008/oct/20/national-book-awards-us. And if that's not enough, you have a chance to be a judge in the Costa (nee Whitbread) award contest, if you want to submit a 300-word essay detailing your qualifications. But you only have until 10/31...
But alas I am not a UK adult.
Congratulations on passing those exams. November's been nothing but good news. Wait, did I really say that? Obama's election makes me forget the economy. Well, some days.
